The main theme of my work is the transformation of materials which echo the forces, metaphors, substance and history within the Dorset landscape. Pushing materials to extremes is fundamental to my work. I use exciting and unpredictable techniques combining porcelain, slate, corrosive materials and minerals using the kiln as a time machine to scar and erode my pieces.

I was born and raised in Dorset, near Lulworth Cove. The main inspiration for my work is the Jurassic coast, and in particular Kimmeridge. After studying at Poole College of Art and Design where I undertook various City and Guilds Courses in ceramics over a three year period, I then went to The University for the Creative Arts where I obtained a First Class Degree in three dimensional design in 2004. I then moved from Dorset to take up a residency in Bath, where I now have my studio.

Experimenation has always been really important to me and pushing materials to extremes is essential to my work. I use the kiln as a time machine to scar and erode my pieces. I use porcelain/slate and corrosive materials to achieve the effects I desire. I multi-fire my pieces adding layers of glaze and porcelain to create fissures and cracks.
