In my work I think of two systems being at play together; traditional geometric patterns and the natural patterns of the organic world. I am also exploring ideas about the ‘decorative’ in fine art, where traditional ornament, patterns or motifs can be re-employed in a modern context and this also plays a role in the construction of my paintings. Colour in nature and landscape is my primary inspiration on which everything is balanced in order to make a pictorial space which must be evocative, engulfing and contemplative.
